(UPPER LEFT): Guericke showed that if he pumped
a certain amount of air (i.e. air having energy per volume)
out of two metal hemispheres in contact, great "suction strength"
would occur, and even several horses could not pull them apart. |

(Upper RIGHT): A hot
bar of metal is shown solidifying, "heat of
fusion" is given off; (i.e. a certain amount of energy per
volume is given off), and a certain amount of "tensile strength"
can thus develop. |
